Elmont NY Yellow Pages

Elmont is a hamlet in Hempstead close to the Nassau County border which helped provide it with the name of the Gateway to Long Island. Christopher and Thomas Foster purchased land from Dutch settlers in 1650 for raising sheep and cattle. They named the area of land Foster Meadow which was the name of the village until around 1850 when England became in control of the Dutch colony. Now, the community became the home to Protestant and English farmers and their families. In the 19th century, Foster Meadow became home to families of German descent. By the end of World War II, the area began to boom with the development of tract homes.

The primary school is in the Elmont Union Free School District along with the Elmont Memorial High School. Elmont is very family oriented and takes pride in the quality education that their children receive. The community offers local businesses, fine dining, several places of worship along with historic churches and temples.

One of the most popular attractions is the Belmont Race Track, Broadhollow at Elmont, along with a few parks including Elmont Road Park and Belmont Park.
